Alabama Tomato Festival

Sunday, August 22
Noon til 4:00 PM - Fresh Tomato Sandwich Picnic
6:00 PM - Evening Heirloom Tomato Dinner

Join Grow Alabama, Birmingham Magazine and thousands more who will flock to Mt. Laurel Organic Gardens for a summer celebration of our favorite food: the heirloom tomato. This annual summer event was founded as a tribute to Alabama farmers and their love of growing juicy red tomatoes. Bring your whole family, a blanket and picnic by the lake as you sample some of the best tomatoes you can taste…all grown in our state. You can pick your own tomatoes to buy and take home while you meet Alabama farmers up close. Food will be prepared by local chefs, you can listen to celtic music and kids will enjoy sack races, a petting zoo and much, much more. Join in the fun as we celebrate the best Alabama has to offer: fresh, locally grown produce now available direct to your door through Grow Alabama.

At 6:00, join us for an Evening Heirloom Tomato Dinner on the Lawn. Overlooking the lake, the dinner will feature a variety of tomato dishes, prepared by Birmingham area chefs, and a wine-tasting. For dessert, taste Heirloom Tomato Ice Cream! Reservations for the Evening Heirloom Tomato Dinner are required. The Alabama Tomato Festival is free to the public with the exception of the Fresh Tomato Sandwich Picnic at a cost of $5 each. You are welcome to bring your own picnic if you prefer. Call (205)991-0042 for information, to make reservations for the dinner, or visit www.growalabama.com.

Mt. Laurel Organic Gardens, a Grow Alabama farm, is located off of Hwy. 280 south of Birmingham.
